About the art
All of the prints are made by Brittany using a stippling technique. Stippling is a drawing technique that uses small dots of ink grouped together to create images, textures, patterns, shading, and depth. The entire object is created from dots only (no lines are drawn) by quickly tapping a fine-tipped pen on paper.
For all of the prints, I start by drawing the object in pencil, then stipple the outline of the object (including all major features) and then I fill in the body with dots until the detail is visible. Darker areas are created by placing dots closer together and lighter areas are created by placing dots further apart.
The original drawings are made in the 8.5"x11" size. Once a drawing is complete, I scan the drawing for the 8.5"x11" prints and resize the scanned image for the 8"x10" and 5"x7" prints and the greeting cards.
I started using the stippling technique to draw freshwater snails for a Wisconsin freshwater snail key during my undergraduate degree. Later, I tried stippling a fish for the first time in 2014 and again in 2016 to create fish art that I donated for a fundraising silent auction at the Texas Chapter American Fisheries Society annual meeting to fund student scholarships and travel awards. Since 2016, I have created 20+ other stippled fish drawings that have been donated to fundraising silent auctions for the American Fisheries Society annual meetings.

Step 1
Draw fish outline and major features in pencil and start stippling outlines.

Step 2
Continue to fill in the object with dots to highlight features.

Step 3
Complete shading by adding more dots closer together to create darker areas.
